The Cisco Catalyst 9300 is a stackable enterprise access switch family. The model number tells you the port type, the PoE capability and the default power supply, and the license decides which software features you can use. This guide follows Cisco’s Catalyst 9300 Series data sheet (updated October 21, 2026).
Reading the model number
The data sheet does not spell out the naming rules, but the model descriptions show a pattern: T is data only (no PoE), P is PoE+, U is Cisco UPOE, UX is multigigabit UPOE, H is Cisco UPOE+ (90 W per port), S means 1G SFP ports and Y means 25G SFP28 ports. A leading C9300X marks the newer 9300X models.

Network Essentials and Network Advantage
- Network Essentials: Layer 2 and routed access, plus the switch fundamentals.
- Network Advantage: adds advanced routing, segmentation, multicast, scale and security, and includes all Network Essentials features.
- Cisco notes that Network Advantage requires a Catalyst or Cisco DNA Advantage subscription; Network Essentials works with an Essentials or an Advantage subscription.
Stacking
- StackWise-480 (C9300 models): 480 Gbps, up to 8 members.
- StackWise-1T (C9300X models): 1 Tbps, up to 8 members.
- A mixed C9300X and C9300 stack runs at StackWise-480 speed.
- StackPower shares power across up to 4 switches with the special connector, or up to 8 with the XPS-2200 appliance, on the modular-uplink C9300 and C9300X models only.
Questions
Which model gives the most PoE?
In Cisco’s table the C9300-24U and C9300-24H list 830 W, and the C9300-48U and C9300-48H list 822 W, with the 1100 W default supply.
Can I mix C9300X and C9300 in one stack?
Yes, according to the data sheet; the stack then runs at StackWise-480 speed.
Do I need a network module?
Only if you need the uplink ports it provides. Check that the module fits your model before you order.
