The IBM 8960-F64 is the IBM Storage Networking SAN64B-6, a Gen 6 Fibre Channel switch in a 1U chassis. IBM sells it as machine type 8960, model F64, and its sales manual describes 48 SFP+ ports plus four Q-Flex ports. Licensing lets the switch scale from 24 to 64 active ports, and ports run at up to 32 Gbps, with the Q-Flex ports delivering 128 Gbps. Model F64 exhausts air out of the front (port side). Model N64 is the same switch with reverse, non-port-side airflow. Fewer ports are available on the SAN24B-6 (8960-F24), which tops out at 24. IBM announced the 8960-F64 on October 11, 2016, withdrew it from marketing on February 28, 2023 and lists January 31, 2030 as the end of service. To confirm a unit, read the machine type-model on the chassis label, check the airflow direction of the installed fans and power supplies, and check how many ports are licensed before buying optics.
