P18438-B21 is HPE's 3.84TB SATA 6Gb/s Mixed Use SSD in the 2.5-inch SFF format with a hot-plug Smart Carrier (SC). Its service spare is P18480-001, which PartSurfer describes as a 3.84TB SFF SSD, Smart Carrier, Mixed Use. Both numbers refer to the same drive, so this page covers both.
HPE's SSD QuickSpecs lists the drive, under the matching P18438-X21 number, as a single-port SATA drive with TLC flash and digitally signed firmware, supported in Gen10 and Gen10 Plus servers. It is rated at 3.0 drive writes per day, 21,024 TB of lifetime writes, with sequential reads up to 512 MiB/s and writes up to 480 MiB/s. HPE lists a 7 mm Z-height and a 5.0 W maximum power figure.
Server QuickSpecs that list the option include the DL380 Gen10, DL560 Gen10, ML350 Gen10, DL325 Gen10 Plus and DL385 Gen10 Plus. It is a Multi Vendor SKU, meaning HPE qualifies more than one maker's drive under this number to the same specification.
SATA drives run on a single 6Gb/s path. For higher throughput or dual-path enclosures, look at SAS Mixed Use drives such as the 6.4TB P49056-B21. The Smart Carrier fits Gen8 to Gen10 SFF bays. Intel-based Gen10 Plus and later servers need the Basic Carrier version.
