P18430-B21 is HPE's 7.68TB SATA 6Gb/s Read Intensive SSD in the 2.5-inch SFF format with a hot-plug Smart Carrier (SC). PartSurfer lists the service spare as P18486-001 (7.68TB SATA SSD, SFF, Smart Carrier, Read Intensive).
HPE's SSD QuickSpecs lists the drive, under the matching P18430-X21 number, as a single-port SATA drive with TLC flash and digitally signed firmware, for Gen10 and Gen10 Plus servers. It is rated at 0.7 drive writes per day, 9,111 TB of lifetime writes, with sequential reads up to 505 MiB/s and writes up to 480 MiB/s. HPE lists a 7 mm Z-height and a 3.55 W maximum power figure.
Read Intensive drives are meant for workloads that read far more than they write: content and web serving, read caches, archives and virtual desktop images. At under one drive write per day, they are not a good fit for heavy logging or database writes; Mixed Use drives suit those better. The DL560 Gen10, DL325 Gen10 Plus and DL385 Gen10 Plus QuickSpecs list this drive.
It is a Multi Vendor SKU: HPE qualifies more than one maker's drive under this number to the same specification. The Smart Carrier fits Gen8 to Gen10 SFF bays and the SC bays of AMD-based Gen10 Plus servers. Intel-based Gen10 Plus and later servers use Basic Carrier drives. A 3.84TB Mixed Use SATA sibling is P18438-B21.
