The HP Integrity rx4640 (base AB370B) is a 4U (6.9 in) server with four processor sockets. It takes one to four dual-core Itanium 2 processors (AD139A 1.6 GHz/18 MB, AD268A 1.6 GHz/24 MB), single-core processors such as A9731A (1.5 GHz/4 MB) and A9732A (1.6 GHz/6 MB), or one to four HP mx2 modules (A9730A), each with two 1.1 GHz Itanium 2 processors. Processors cannot be mixed, they install in the order 0, 1, 2, 3, and mx2 modules are not supported under Linux.
Dual-core processors in the rx4640 need system firmware 3.17 or later, the September 2006 HP-UX 11i v2 update or OpenVMS V8.3. Memory sits on one carrier board: A9738A with 16 DIMM slots (up to 64 GB) or A9739A with 32 slots (up to 128 GB), filled with equal quads from A6967A (1 GB) to AB475A (16 GB).
Eight PCI-X slots are fitted; two are reserved for the core LAN and SCSI cards, leaving six. The two hot-plug Ultra320 low-profile disks can run in duplex mode, one SCSI channel each, after adding the A9740B kit, which HP recommends installing at the factory. Dual hot-plug supplies are standard; racking uses A6977A in the field or A6977AZ from the factory, and A6979A is a rackless frame.
