The HP Integrity rx8620 (base A7026A) is a 17U server with up to four sx1000 cell boards and 16 Itanium 2 Madison processors at 1.6 GHz/6 MB or 1.5 GHz/4 MB, or HP mx2 modules. It uses the same cell board and processor products (AB439A, AB441A, AB548A, AB550A) as the rx7620, and its memory quads are shared with the HP 9000 rp8420. Cell slot 0 or 1 is loaded first, and HP recommends the order 0, 1, 2, 3.
On its own the chassis runs up to two hard partitions; with the rp84xx/rx86xx Server Expansion Unit it runs four, and the limits rise to four core I/O cards, eight internal disks, four removable media drives and 32 PCI cards. The rx8620 itself has 16 hot-plug PCI-X slots, and two cell boards, in slots 0 and 1, are needed to reach all of them; one cell board enables eight. Memory tops out at 256 GB with sixteen AB322A 16 GB quads.
HP kit A9787A converts an HP 9000 rp8400 into an rx8620 and replaces the old PCI backplanes with PCI-X. rp8400 systems ordered after September 2003 shipped with core I/O A7109A, which carries over to the rx8620; earlier ones need a core I/O upgrade. The rx8620 QuickSpecs (version 30) give firmware 3.20 as the minimum for the processor add-on products, while the rx7620 QuickSpecs give 3.30, so read the current release notice before a processor upgrade.
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise and Datacenter, RHEL AS 4 and SLES 9 run on Madison processors but not on mx2, and OpenVMS from V8.2-1 runs on the Mad9 processors. The power supply and fan spares below carry the A6093 prefix of the HP 9000 rp8400 and also appear in its PartSurfer BOM (A6093A).
