The HP 9000 rp7440 (base A9959A) is a 10U PA-RISC server on the sx2000 chipset, with two cell boards and up to eight dual-core PA-8900 processors at 1.068 GHz with 64 MB of cache and a 533 MHz front-side bus. HP sold FAST bundles AB027A (4 processors/8 cores, one cell), AD028A (6/12, two cells) and AB029A (8/16, two cells), each with one core I/O. HP-UX 11i v1, v2 and v3 are supported, and the server runs as one system or two hard partitions.
The rp7440 shares its cell board with the rp8440, and HP states those cells can be upgraded for use in Integrity rx7640 and rx8640 servers; AD056A converts the rp7440 itself to an rx7640. Cell boards and memory from the rp7410, rp7420 and rx7620 do not carry forward into the rp7440.
Memory is DDR2, sold in pairs of equal DIMMs: AB453A (2 GB), AB454A (4 GB) and AB455A (8 GB). Each cell has 16 slots and needs at least 2 GB, larger pairs load first, and the system maximum is 128 GB with 4 GB DIMMs in all 32 slots. Each cell needs at least one active core, upgrades go one core at a time, and processors load in the order 0, 2, 1, 3.
Fifteen hot-plug PCI-X slots run from 33 to 266 MHz. The PartSurfer BOM for A9959A also lists boards that carry Integrity rx7640 (AB312-) part numbers, such as the system backplane, mass storage backplane and front panel display board, and those spares are listed below.
