The HP 9000 rp8440 (base A9958A) is a 17U, four-cell sx2000 PA-RISC server with up to sixteen dual-core PA-8900 processors at 1.068 GHz, 32 cores, and 16 hot-plug PCI-X slots. It runs two hard partitions on its own and four with the Server Expansion Unit, and it supports HP-UX 11i v1, v2 and v3.
Its cell board is the one used in the rp7440, so the cells can move on to an Integrity rx7640 or rx8640, and AD056A upgrades the whole rp8440 to an rx8640. Cell boards and memory from the rp8400, rp8420 and rx8620 cannot be reused in it. Cell slot 0 or 1 loads first, and a minimum system is one cell board with one dual-core processor.
Memory is DDR2 pairs (AB453A, AB454A, AB455A), loaded in slot order with the largest first, at least 2 GB per cell. The rp8440 QuickSpecs (version 4) disagree on the maximum: the configuration section gives 256 GB, while the specification table gives 128 GB (32 GB per cell) and the memory text lists only 1 GB and 2 GB DIMMs, so confirm the figure for a given build before relying on it.
The spares below come from the PartSurfer BOM for A9958A and include the 0957-2183 bulk supply, the 1000 W 48 V supply (0957-2321), front and rear smart fans and the PCI-X card cage.
