P40509-B21 is HPE's 7.68TB Value SAS Read Intensive SSD in the 2.5-inch SFF format with a hot-plug Basic Carrier (BC). PartSurfer lists the service spare as P41534-001 (7.68TB SFF SAS RI MV BC VS).
HPE's SSD QuickSpecs lists it as a single-port 12Gb/s SAS drive with TLC flash and digitally signed firmware for Gen10 Plus and Gen11 servers. It is rated at 1.0 drive write per day, 14,000 TB of lifetime writes, with sequential reads up to 820 MiB/s and writes up to 695 MiB/s. HPE lists a 15 mm Z-height and a 9.0 W maximum power figure. HPE describes Value SAS as giving about twice the IOPS of SATA SSDs at lower cost than full SAS drives.
The drive is listed in the QuickSpecs for the DL360 and DL380 Gen10 Plus, DL385 Gen10 Plus v2, DL380 Gen11, Synergy 480 Gen11 and DL380 Gen12. Its Basic Carrier fits the BC bays of Intel-based Gen10 Plus servers and later. Older Gen10 Smart Carrier bays need an SC drive instead.
Read Intensive drives suit read-heavy work such as content serving, read caching and large data sets that change slowly. It is a Multi Vendor SKU, so HPE may ship drives from more than one maker under this number, all meeting one specification.
