Cisco ASR-920-4SZ-A ASR 920 Aggregation Services Router, AC Model

A compact 1RU router from the Cisco ASR 920 Series, built for carrier Ethernet access: mobile backhaul, metro Ethernet access and broadband access. It has 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports and 4 x 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports, and Cisco's optics list for the series covers GE SFPs (including 1000BASE-T copper SFPs) and 10GE SFP+ modules. Extra 1GE and 10GE interfaces are enabled by licence on a pay-as-you-grow basis.

The -A suffix marks the AC model: two built-in, redundant AC supplies accept 85 to 264 VAC. Power draw is 105 W maximum and 75 W typical. Its DC twin, the ASR-920-4SZ-D, takes -19.2 to -72 VDC and is slightly deeper (9.6 in against 9.1 in).

It is hardened for outdoor cabinets and central offices: Cisco rates it from -40°C to +70°C up to 1,000 ft, derated at higher altitudes, with Seismic Zone 4 compliance. Timing support includes IEEE 1588-2008, SyncE with ESMC and SSM, and BITS, 1PPS and ToD interfaces, which mobile backhaul sites need for frequency and phase sync. Cisco's chassis guide gives 4 GB of DRAM and 8 MB of NOR flash across ASR 920 variants. It runs Cisco IOS XE.

The chassis is 1.72 x 15.5 x 9.1 in and weighs 7.7 lb.

Lifecycle: Cisco announced end of sale on March 31, 2026. The last order date is March 31, 2027, and the last date of support is March 31, 2032. Cisco lists several migration options, including the Cisco 8011-12G12X4Y-A and 8011-16G8X-A and NCS 540 models such as the N540-6Z18G-SYS-A.

To confirm fit, check the port licences enabled on the unit, as these decide how many ports are usable.
