Cisco ASR1002-HX Aggregation Services Router

The ASR 1002-HX is the 2RU, 100 Gbps member of Cisco's ASR 1000 Series, with the route processor, forwarding engine (ESP) and interfaces integrated in one chassis. Cisco documents list two built-in port counts: the chassis table gives eight 10 Gigabit SFP+ and eight Gigabit SFP ports, while the ordering and EoL descriptions read 4x10GE+4x1GE. Expansion is one Ethernet Port Adapter (EPA) slot and one network interface module (NIM) slot. To confirm fit, check the faceplate of the unit.

Forwarding is equivalent to the ASR1000-ESP100 at 100 Gbps, and the integrated route processor has 16 GB of DRAM by default. Crypto is optional, per Cisco's ordering text. It supports software redundancy (dual IOS XE instances) but not ISSU, which Cisco reserves for the hardware-redundant ASR 1006 and 1013.

The hardware installation guide lists 3.5 x 17.3 x 22.0 in dimensions, 34 lb fully loaded, 0 to 40°C nominal operation (50°C short-term), and 750 W maximum input power. Its power supplies are the ASR1000X-AC-750W, also on Cisco's EoL notice.

Lifecycle: Cisco's last order date was March 31, 2025, and the last date of support is March 31, 2030. Cisco names IOS XE 17.15 as the last supported release and points to the Catalyst C8500-12X and C8500-12X4QC as replacements. The 1RU ASR1001-HX is the 60 Gbps sibling. When buying, confirm the crypto and throughput licences on the unit, since features depend on them.
