Cisco describes this module as a dual-rate 40/100 Gb bidirectional (BiDi) QSFP transceiver with a duplex LC connector for short-reach links over multimode fiber. It is built to reuse existing 10 Gb duplex MMF cabling when moving to 40 or 100 Gigabit Ethernet, rather than installing the MPO ribbon fiber that SR4 optics need. Two transmit and receive channels in the 832-918 nm range share the two fibers.
Reach depends on rate and fiber: at 100G it supports 70 m on OM3 and 100 m on OM4; at 40G it supports 100 m on OM3 and 150 m on OM4. Cisco's operating range is +10 to +60°C at 100G and +10 to +70°C at 40G, and the module is colour-coded gray.
At 40G it links to Cisco's QSFP-40G-SR-BD 40G BiDi optic, so a 100G switch port can connect to an older 40G BiDi port during a staged upgrade. It does not interoperate with the newer QSFP-100G-SR1.2, which uses 50G PAM4 lanes and is 100G only; both ends of a SR1.2 link must be SR1.2 (or a 400G SR4.2 in breakout).
Confirm that the host switch and software release support it in Cisco's Transceiver Module Group compatibility matrix before ordering. No end-of-sale notice for it appears on Cisco's transceiver EoL listing.
