HPE SR416ie-m Gen11 x16 Lanes 4GB Cache SPDM Mezzanine Storage Controller, P39959-B21

P39959-B21 is the HPE SR416ie-m Gen11, a 16-lane storage controller with 4GB of cache in mezzanine form for HPE Synergy compute modules. The HPE service spare is P44838-001. It belongs to HPE's SR Gen11 controller family, which HPE's QuickSpecs describes as using Microchip SmartRAID firmware on SmartROC controllers.

The Synergy 480 Gen11 QuickSpecs names it as the controller for the 2-drive and 4-drive SAS/SATA/NVMe Premium drive cages, with SR416 SAS cable P39956-B21. It is also the controller for connecting to an HPE Synergy D3940 storage module. HPE notes that the optional NS204i-d Gen11 M.2 boot controller works alongside it. The 4-drive NVMe direct-connect cage uses Intel VROC software RAID instead.

The SR Gen11 QuickSpecs lists it among the Gen11 SR models and says an HPE Smart Storage energy pack is optional for the family. HPE also states that volumes and SED-locked drives cannot be moved between SR and MR (Broadcom) controllers. When replacing a failed SR416ie-m, use another SR controller so existing arrays are kept.

Because it occupies one of the module's three PCIe 5.0 mezzanine slots, it reduces the slots available for network or Fibre Channel adapters. Check that the compute module's firmware and Synergy Composer/OneView release support Gen11 storage controllers before installing it.
