The C-NIM-8T is one of Cisco's newer LAN/WAN network interface modules for the Catalyst 8200 and 8300 Series Edge Platforms. Cisco lists it as an 8-port 100 Mbps/1 Gbps switch NIM with LAN/WAN MACsec and optional Layer 3.
All eight RJ-45 ports work as Layer 2 switch ports by default. The two highest-numbered ports, 6 and 7, can be converted to Layer 3 WAN ports with the no switchport command; ports 0 to 5 have no Layer 3 capability. MACsec is supported switch to switch, on LAN ports in Layer 2 mode and on WAN ports in Layer 3 mode, but not switch to host. The module supports VLANs, VTP and per-VLAN spanning tree, but not Layer 2 port-channels, and it has no PoE.
It installs only in a NIM slot, not in the SM-NIM carrier adapter, and requires Cisco IOS XE Dublin 17.11.1a or later. On the C8300-2N2S-4T2X and 2N2S-6T, Cisco limits jumbo MTU on these modules to 2048 bytes.
Siblings in the same family: the C-NIM-8M has eight 2.5G multigigabit ports with UPOE+ on ports 4 to 7 (IOS XE 17.12.2 or later), and the C-NIM-4X has four 1/10G SFP+ ports and fits only the 8300. Before installing, check that the router runs IOS XE 17.11.1a or later.
