P51178-B21 is HPE's stand-up PCIe four-port 1GbE BASE-T adapter on the Broadcom BCM5719 controller. HPE's matching spare is P51304-001. The OCP 3.0 version of the same adapter is P51181-B21.
HPE's Compute 1Gb Ethernet Adapters QuickSpecs marks it as supported on Gen10 Plus, Gen11 and Gen12 servers. It has a PCIe 2.0 x4 host interface and a 5.78 W power requirement. The ports auto-negotiate 10Mb, 100Mb or 1GbE over RJ-45. It supports UEFI and legacy PXE boot, UEFI iSCSI boot, IPv4 and IPv6, receive-side scaling and IEEE 802.3ad link aggregation.
HPE lists what it does not do, which helps when choosing between 1GbE cards. This stand-up card has no Wake-on-LAN (the OCP version does), no SR-IOV, NPAR, RDMA, tunnel offload, VMQ/NetQueue or DPDK. It has a limited root of trust with software-authenticated updates and no secure boot. For virtualization hosts that need SR-IOV or VMQ, or for stricter firmware security, consider an Intel-based 1GbE card from the same QuickSpecs.
The kit ships with a full-height bracket fitted and a low-profile bracket included. PartSurfer shows the spare in DL360 Gen11, ML110 Gen11 and DL560 Gen11 builds.
