The UCS 2408 is Cisco's fourth-generation I/O module (IOM, also called a fabric extender) for the UCS 5108 blade server chassis. It carries the unified fabric from the fabric interconnects into the chassis and works as a distributed line card; it does no switching itself. A chassis takes up to two for redundancy.
On the network side it has 8 x 25GbE SFP28 ports, FCoE-capable. Inside, it presents 32 x 10GbE ports through the midplane, one per half-width blade slot. A pair delivers up to 400 Gbps of I/O to the chassis. Cisco's data sheet lists it with the UCS 6454 and 64108 fabric interconnects (at 25 Gbps only) and the 6536, and Cisco's Intersight hardware list adds the 6652 and 6664. The older UCS-IOM-2204XP and UCS-IOM-2208XP are not supported on the 6500-series fabric interconnects.
It shares its form factor with the third-generation UCS 2304. Management is through UCS Manager or Cisco Intersight. Maximum power is 160 W and the module weighs 2.8 lb (1.134 kg). The spare PID is UCS-IOM-2408=.
Before buying, confirm the fabric interconnect model the chassis connects to and plan the uplink cabling: the SFP28 ports take 25G optics or cables. Cisco's data sheet carries no end-of-sale notice for the module.
