HPE 7.68TB SAS 12G Read Intensive SFF SC Multi Vendor SSD, P49039-B21

P49039-B21 is HPE's 7.68TB SAS 12G Read Intensive SSD in the 2.5-inch SFF format with a hot-plug Smart Carrier (SC). It is a Multi Vendor, full-performance SAS drive. PartSurfer lists the service spare as P49739-001 (SSD 7.68TB SFF SAS RI SC MV).

HPE lists the drive in the QuickSpecs for the ProLiant DL380 Gen10, DL560 Gen10 and ML350 Gen10, and the AMD-based DL325 and DL385 Gen10 Plus. In the same family, the 3.84TB P49034-B21 is rated by HPE at 1 drive write per day, as dual-port with TLC flash and digitally signed firmware. HPE does not list separate figures for P49039-B21 in its current SSD tables.

HPE's SSD QuickSpecs describes full SAS SSDs as giving more I/O bandwidth, write performance and endurance than Value SAS drives, for mission-critical environments. Read Intensive drives fit read-heavy workloads such as content repositories, analytics and read caching.

The Smart Carrier suits SC bays in Gen10 and AMD Gen10 Plus servers. Intel-based Gen10 Plus and Gen11 servers use Basic Carrier drives, such as the 7.68TB P40509-B21 Value SAS drive. As a Multi Vendor SKU, drives from different makers can ship under this number to one specification. PartSurfer shows the spare in the drive kit, a remanufactured kit and a Z-prefixed factory kit.
