HPE 960GB SAS 12G Read Intensive SFF SC PM5 SSD, P04517-B21

P04517-B21 is the HPE 960GB SAS 12G Read Intensive SFF SC PM5 SSD. PartSurfer lists the service spare as P06596-001, described as a 960GB SAS solid state drive in the 2.5-inch small form factor, Read Intensive, with digitally signed firmware and a Smart Carrier (SC).

The PM5 in the name identifies the drive model. PartSurfer shows the spare only in the drive kit, its remanufactured version and a Z-prefixed factory kit.

HPE's SSD QuickSpecs describes full SAS SSDs as giving more I/O bandwidth, write performance and endurance than Value SAS drives, for mission-critical workloads. Read Intensive drives are rated for read-heavy work such as content serving, read caching and boot volumes, with lower write endurance than Mixed Use drives. Digitally signed firmware means the drive accepts only HPE-signed firmware updates.

The Smart Carrier fits SC bays in ProLiant Gen8, Gen9 and Gen10 servers and in AMD-based Gen10 Plus servers. Intel-based Gen10 Plus and Gen11 servers use Basic Carrier drives instead. HPE no longer lists this drive in its current SSD QuickSpecs tables. To confirm fit, check the label on an installed drive or the server's QuickSpecs.
