P09096-B21 is the HPE 6.4TB SAS 12G Mixed Use SFF SC PM5 SSD. PartSurfer lists the service spare as P09926-001, described as a 6.4TB SAS solid state drive in the 2.5-inch small form factor, Mixed Use, with a Smart Carrier (SC) and digitally signed firmware.
The PM5 in the name identifies the drive model. Other PM5 SAS drives are the 1.6TB Mixed Use P04533-B21 and the 960GB Read Intensive P04517-B21. PartSurfer shows the spare in the drive kit, a remanufactured kit, a factory kit and a DL380 Gen10 Microsoft Azure Stack all-flash node.
HPE's SSD QuickSpecs describes full SAS SSDs as giving more I/O bandwidth, write performance and endurance than Value SAS drives, for mission-critical environments. Mixed Use drives carry more write endurance than Read Intensive drives, which suits databases, virtualisation and hyperconverged storage with a steady share of writes.
The Smart Carrier fits SC bays in ProLiant Gen8, Gen9 and Gen10 servers and AMD-based Gen10 Plus servers; Intel-based Gen10 Plus and Gen11 servers take Basic Carrier drives, such as the 6.4TB Mixed Use P49057-B21. HPE no longer lists this drive in its current SSD QuickSpecs tables, so check the label on an installed drive when matching an array.
