IBM Product Number: 9119-MME
Product Description: IBM Power8 Power E870 Server
More Information:
Enterprise level hardware is a buzzword that gets thrown around a lot.
The IBM Power 870 Server (9119-MME) is the real deal.
It is a high performing, secure, number crunching server extraordinaire.
It maxes out at 80 processors and 4tb DDR3 CDIMM memory.
The Power E870 is meant to handle large databases and the analyzing that goes with that.
Summary of features:
- One or two 5U 19-inch rack-mount system node drawers
- One 2U 19-inch rack-mount system control unit drawer
- Only 12U for a system with two system node drawers
- One processor feature per system node:
- - 4.024 GHz, (4 x 0/8W) 32-core POWER8 processor (#EPBA)
- - - Up to sixty-four 4.02 GHz 8-core POWER8 processor cores
- - 4.190 GHz, (4 X 0/10W) 40-core POWER8 processor (#EPBC)
- - - Up to eighty 4.19 GHz 10-core POWER8 processor cores
- Static or mobile processor activation features available on a per core basis
- 32 CDIMM slots per system node, a minimum of 16 populated per node
- POWER8 DDR3 memory CDIMMs:
- - 0/64 GB (4 X 16 GB), 1600 MHz (#EM8J)
- - 0/128 GB (4 X 32 GB), 1600 MHz (#EM8K)
- - 0/256 GB (4 X 64 GB), 1600 MHz (#EM8L)
- - - Up to 4 TB of 1600 MHz DDR3 CDIMM memory
- Active Memory Expansion
- Eight PCIe Gen3 x16 slots per enclosure, a max of 16 per 2-node system
- One slim-line, SATA DVD drive
- Redundant hot-swap ac power supplies
- Two HMC ports per FSP in system control unit enclosure service processor (FSP) (maximum of one #5550 and one #5557)
- Dynamic logical partition (LPAR) support and processor and memory CUoD
- PowerVM Enterprise virtualization is built in
This server includes the OpenStack cloud controller functionality (IBM calls it PowerVC), that links to PowerVM Enterprise (optional on the Power E850 8408-E8E).
This E series or E-class gets PowerVM rather than the PowerKVM that runs on the Linux only LC series.
