HPE Integrity rx3600 Parts and Upgrades

The HPE Integrity rx3600 is a 4U rack or pedestal server that takes one or two dual-core Intel Itanium processor modules on a removable processor board. HPE lists four modules for it: 1.4 GHz/12 MB (option AB576AX) and 1.6 GHz/18 MB (AB577AX), plus the later 1.42 GHz/12 MB (AD390AX) and 1.67 GHz/18 MB (AD391AX), which need rx3600 system firmware later than 02.03. Speed and cache must match across both sockets, so order the part number that is already installed. For that processor upgrade HP-UX must be at least 11.23 0706 (11i v2) or 11.31 0709 (11i v3); OpenVMS needs V8.3-1H1.

Memory is registered DDR2 on one of two carriers. The standard 8-DIMM carrier takes DIMMs in pairs, up to 64 GB. The optional 24-DIMM carrier takes them in quads, up to 192 GB with 8 GB DIMMs. HPE supports 512 MB, 1, 2, 4 and 8 GB DIMMs. The DIMMs in a pair or quad must be identical, and larger pairs or quads load first.

The rx3600 shipped with one of two 10-slot I/O backplanes. The PCI/PCI-X version has eight public PCI-X slots. The PCI/PCI-X/PCIe version swaps four of those for PCIe x8 slots, and the PCIe cards below need that backplane. Up to eight hot-plug 2.5-inch SAS drives and one DVD or DVD+RW drive load from the front. Power is 1+1 hot-swap supplies, and cooling is N+1 hot-swap fans.

HPE gives many rx3600 parts three numbers: an option number, a replacement (spare) number and an exchange number. For example, the 512 MB DIMM is option AB563AX, with exchange number AB563-69001. The 1.4 GHz module AB576-2100B has exchange number AB576-69017. The memory carriers list as AD124-69001 (8-DIMM) and AD125-69001 (24-DIMM). Both DVD drives listed here, AD142-2100B and AD143-2100A, take replacement number AD143-2100B.
