The HP Integrity rx7620 (base A7027A) is a 10U, eight-socket server on the sx1000 chipset with two cell boards, run as one SMP system or as two hard partitions (nPars). Each A6913A cell board has four processor module slots and 16 DIMM slots, and the rx7620 shares that cell board with the rx8620. Processors are Itanium 2 Madison at 1.6 GHz/6 MB (AB548A, Instant Capacity AB550A) or 1.5 GHz/4 MB (AB439A, AB441A), or HP mx2 dual-processor modules, which need one A9792A baffle per cell.
Speeds can differ between cells but not inside a cell or a hard partition. Each cell needs at least two active processors, they load in the order 0, 2, 1, 3, and the 1.5 and 1.6 GHz parts are sold in pairs. Before adding any of those four processor products, the rx7620 QuickSpecs ask for system firmware 3.30 or later (4.0 for OpenVMS). OpenVMS runs only on the Mad9 processors in this chassis, and Red Hat and SUSE Linux are not supported on mx2.
Memory comes in quads of HP custom DIMMs: AB307A (2 GB), AB308A (4 GB), AB309A (8 GB) and AB322A (16 GB as four 4 GB DIMMs), the same products as the HP 9000 rp7420. A 16 GB quad cannot share a cell with smaller DIMMs, and eight AB322A quads give the 128 GB maximum. HP recommends two quads per cell at a time, because eight DIMMs are needed to fill both memory buses.
The PCI-X backplane has 16 slots with one card per bus; the LAN/SCSI core I/O card takes one, leaving 15, and a second core I/O set for two partitions leaves 14. With one cell board, seven slots are usable. The four internal low-profile disks are split into two pairs, one per core I/O set, so both sets are needed to reach all four.
