S4048-ON: Dell EMC Networking S4048-ON 48 Port S-Series 10GbE SFP+ 6x 40Gb QSFP+ Managed L3 Switch

The S4048-ON is a Dell EMC Networking S-Series top-of-rack switch with 48 dual-speed 1/10GbE SFP+ ports and six 40GbE QSFP+ uplinks, 1RU high. Each 40GbE port can break out to four 10GbE ports, which makes 72 10GbE ports with breakout cables. The non-blocking fabric runs at 1.44 Tbps full duplex with forwarding of 1080 Mpps, latency under 650 ns, a 12 MB packet buffer and 4 GB of CPU memory. It supports ONIE for zero-touch installation of an operating system: Dell EMC Networking OS9 and SmartFabric OS10, plus Cumulus Linux, Big Switch Switch Light OS and Pluribus OS. Under OS9 the switch handles VLT, VRF-lite, VXLAN gateway, DCB, OpenFlow 1.3, 128 link aggregation groups, 160K MAC addresses and stacking of up to six units. The S4048-ON takes AC power at 100 to 240 V 50/60 Hz or DC power, with hot-swappable redundant power supplies and fans; it ships with one power supply and can run on one, with a blank plate over the empty slot. Typical power consumption is 153 W and maximum is 234.35 W on AC, with 799.64 BTU/h maximum thermal output. Airflow is either I/O panel to power supply or power supply to I/O panel, and one direction must be used for every power supply and fan in a chassis. The chassis measures 1.71 x 17.09 x 17.13 inches, weighs 18.52 lb and operates from 32 to 113 degrees F. Management connections are an RJ45 console and management port, a micro-USB serial console and a USB 2.0 type A port.
