Seagate ST500NM0001, the drive behind Dell part number 6VNCJ, is the 500GB standard model in the Constellation ES.1 SAS family. The family also covers 1TB and 2TB sizes, the 500GB self-encrypting ST500NM0021 and the 500GB FIPS 140-2 model ST500NM0041.
At 500GB the drive uses two read/write heads on 7,200 rpm media with a 4.16 ms average rotational latency. It carries a 64 Mbyte data buffer and a SAS link of 6Gb/s, which makes 600 MB/s per port. Sustained transfer runs from 62 to 152 MB/s. Idle Read After Write is among the data-integrity features of the series.
Reliability is rated at 1,200,000 hours MTBF and a 0.73 percent annualized failure rate; interface errors stay below 1 in 10^12 bits transferred, and the 500GB models weigh at most 1.34 lb (610 g). Average access time including controller overhead is 8.5 ms for reads and 9.5 ms for writes.
