K2R28A: Service Processor HPE 3PAR StoreServ SPS Service Processor

K2R28A is the physical Service Processor with a single power supply for HPE 3PAR StoreServ. The Service Processor monitors the array and provides the secure channel to HPE 3PAR Central for remote online software upgrades, remote diagnostics and remote serviceability. HPE says each 3PAR StoreServ 8000 requires its own Service Processor, which talks to HPE over HTTPS.

There are two ways to run one. A virtual Service Processor comes free with the 3PAR Operating System and installs on customer-provided VMware ESXi 5.0 to 6.0 or Microsoft Hyper-V 2008 R2 to 2012 R2, with at least 2 GB RAM and 256 GB of free disk, and its storage must not sit on the array it manages. The physical Service Processor, K2R28A, is the alternative when no VMware server is available; it is a dedicated unit in the storage rack with serial-port connectivity for maintenance. It weighs 37.48 lb (17 kg).

HPE lists the physical Service Processor as Q2S14A (single power supply) and Q2S15A (DC redundant power). The DC version needs one of the DC power cable kits Q9N58A, Q9N59A or Q9N60A.

The spare is 818723-001 as the service processor for K2R28A and a service processor adapter cable, 818725-001. HPE flags 818723-001 as limited supply and names P07159-001 as the replacement, with a minimum 3PAR OS of 3.2.2 MU4 or MU6; HPE adds that the newer unit has a higher OS requirement.
