The EVA6400 is the middle model of the EVA4400, EVA6400 and EVA8400 family of HP Enterprise Virtual Arrays. HP's QuickSpecs describe it as a 4U Fibre Channel dual-controller assembly with HSV400 controllers, 8GB of cache per controller pair with battery backup of up to 96 hours, and from 2 up to a full rack of 18 M6412 12-bay Fibre Channel drive enclosures, which is 0.4 TB to 216 TB and 216 disks.
Connections: each HSV400 controller has four Fibre Channel host ports (eight per pair) and four device ports, and the array supports Fibre Channel, iSCSI, FCoE and direct connect hosts, 256 hosts, and LUNs up to 32TB. Controller software is XCS v10.0xx with Command View EVA v9.4 or v10.0 for management, and RAID types are Vraid 0, 1, 0+1, 5, 0+5 and 6. The QuickSpecs say the 6400/8400 are 4 Gb/s enabled and share the M6412A shelf and disk families with the EVA4400.
Status and upgrade: HP's May 2014 QuickSpecs notes the EVA6400 model was no longer available while add-on shelves, drives and software remained available. HP's compatibility reference shows data-in-place upgrades from the EVA4400 (HSV300) to the EVA6400 (HSV400), and from the EVA6400 to the EVA8400 (HSV450).
