C9600-SUP-1 is the Cisco Catalyst 9600 Series Supervisor Engine 1. It is built on three UADP 3.0 ASICs with a programmable pipeline, giving a forwarding rate of 3 Bpps, or 1 Bpps per ASIC. Cisco positions it for Layer 3 core and collapsed-core designs, for combined Layer 2/Layer 3 distribution and aggregation, and for medium-scale VXLAN, NAT, VPLS and mVPN.
The hardware is an Intel 2.0 GHz x86 CPU with 8 cores, 16 GB of DDR4 DRAM and 16 GB of flash, plus up to 960 GB of SATA SSD storage for hosting containers. Packet buffer is up to 108 MB, which is 36 MB per ASIC.
System switching capacity is up to 9.6 Tbps (4.8 Tbps full-duplex) in a C9606R with four line cards, and each slot gets 2.4 Tbps. The supervisor works only in the C9606R, in the dedicated supervisor slots 3 and 4, and supports 1+1 redundancy with SSO and ISSU.
With SUP-1 Cisco supports the C9600-LC-24C, C9600-LC-48YL, C9600-LC-48TX, C9600-LC-48S and C9600-LC-40YL4CD line cards, which need Cisco IOS XE 16.11.1, 16.11.1, 17.1.1, 17.2.1 and 17.7.1 respectively. The C9600X-LC-56YL4C and C9600X-LC-32CD are not supported with SUP-1.
C9600-SUP-1(=) is the spare and C9600-SUP-1/2 is the redundant pair. More Catalyst supervisors and line cards are in the Cisco modules category.
