55RMX is the Dell part number for a 1TB 6Gb/s SAS drive in the 2.5 inch format that uses the Seagate ST91000640SS. Within the Constellation.2 SAS family it is the standard 512N model, separate from the ST91000641SS self-encrypting and ST91000642SS FIPS versions.
The ST91000640SS holds 1,000 GB on 8 read/write heads spinning at 7,200 rpm, with a 4.16 ms average rotational latency. Typical average access time including controller overhead is 7.7 ms for reads and 8.7 ms for writes, and the full stroke takes 17.26 ms for reads. The internal data rate runs from 84 to 163 MB/s depending on the zone, sustained transfer is 57 to 115 MB/s, and the SAS interface reaches 600 MB/s per port.
A 64 MB data buffer fronts the platters. Seagate rates the drive at 1,400,000 hours MTBF with a 0.62 percent annualized failure rate. Default blocks are 512 bytes, and 520 or 528 bytes can be selected.
