IBM feature #2943 is the 8-Port Asynchronous Adapter EIA-232/RS-422, PCI bus, CCIN 3-B. It is a multi-channel intelligent serial communications adapter that supports speeds of up to 230 Kbps on each asynchronous port and is run by a 32-bit, 20 MHz IDT 3041 processor. The card is a short, 32-bit PCI adapter for 3.3 V or 5 V slots, with support for the AIX, IBM i and Linux operating systems, and it is used in the IBM Power Systems 8202, 8205, 9117 and 9119 servers.
The bit rate runs from 50 to 230,000 and is set by the program, with 5, 6, 7 or 8 bits for each character. The adapter is not a bus master. It provides eight ports through a 78-pin D-shell female connector, and the 8-Port DB-25 connector box, part number 11H5967, comes with the adapter and provides eight 25-pin D-shell connectors.
A 25-pin EIA-232 wrap plug, part number 6298964, tests all adapter functions for both EIA-232 and RS-422. The cable options are the EIA-232 modem cable, part number 6323741 (feature 2936, 3 meters or 10 feet), the EIA-232 terminal/printer cable, part number 12H1204 (feature 2934, 3 meters or 10 feet), and the RS-422 terminal/printer cable, part number 30F8966 (feature 2945, 20 meters or 66 feet). The RS-422 modem cable is customer supplied and must meet RS-422 requirements. The adapter FRU number is 93H6541, which is not designed to comply with the RoHS requirement.
