49Y4216 is the Brocade 10Gb SFP+ SR Optical Transceiver, feature code 0069. It is a short-reach module that plugs into an SFP+ cage on a 10 GbE adapter or switch port and takes an LC duplex multimode fibre cable.
Lenovo product guides quote a maximum distance of 300 m over OM3 multimode fibre with SR optics on the Solarflare SFN5162F/SFN6122F and SFN7122F cards. Lenovo lists 49Y4216 as a supported SR optic for many System x adapters, among them the Emulex VFA III/IIIr and VFA5 families, the Broadcom NetXtreme 10 GbE SFP+ family, the Mellanox ConnectX-3 10GbE card, the Intel X520 and X710 adapters, the Solarflare cards and the ThinkSystem QLogic QL41262.
The Broadcom 10 GbE guide adds a rule worth knowing before you order: on a multi-port adapter, every port must use the same type of transceiver or DAC cable, so do not mix this optic with a DAC on the same card.
Server guides list it per port of a supported adapter rather than per server, so the quantity you need is the number of fibre-connected 10 GbE ports.
Fit check: 94Y5180 and 47C9977 both have empty SFP+ cages that take this module. 49Y4218 is the QLogic-branded SR optic Lenovo lists alongside it.
