The DS4246 is a NetApp disk shelf from the IOM6 generation, the 6Gb/s SAS module family that also covers the DS2246 and DS4486. NetApp's hardware support list drops IOM6 shelves from ONTAP 9.16.1, so clusters that keep them stay on ONTAP 9.15.1 or earlier, and an ONTAP upgrade beyond that point means migrating data to SAS-3 shelves first.
Power configuration depends on the drives. NetApp's KB for this model and the older DS4243 says shelves with SSDs or 7.2K drives need two power supplies plus two blanks in the four power bays, while shelves with 10K or 15K drives need all four power supplies, and four power outlets.
NetApp also documents a harmless non-critical status that appears when the shelf reports a power supply in an empty bay, and a separate case where temperature sensors 1 to 10 read unavailable on IOM6 shelves; both show in storage show fault.

To confirm the model, check Shelf Type and Module Type (IOM6) in storage show fault, count the installed power supplies against the drive speed, and confirm your ONTAP release is 9.15.1 or earlier.
