- Description
The RP8400 is the HP 9000 rp8400 server. It occupies 17 EIA units in a 19-inch rack and uses rack-mount kit J1528B, with slider rails, for factory integration in HP Rack System/E cabinets or customer installation in HP Rack System/E, HP 9000 Series, HP 10000 Series or third-party cabinets. It is not supported in HP 5000 cabinets or in cabinets with sectional columns, and a 120-lb ballast kit is required unless the cabinet is bolted to the floor or at least three racks are bayed together. All rp8400 servers ship with four AC power cords.
Core I/O: rp8400 servers ordered after September 2003 were delivered with core I/O card A7109A; the MP FAULT and MP SEL LEDs near the local console port identify it. Parts that carry over to the rp8420 include memory quads A6097A (2 GB), A6098A (4 GB) and A6100A (8 GB), internal disks A6831A (36 GB, 15,000 RPM), A6725A (73 GB, 10,000 RPM) and A7083A (146 GB, 10,000 RPM), the A6180A DVD-ROM drive and the A6182A DDS-4 tape drive (40 GB). Chassis upgrade kit A9785A takes an rp8400 to an rp8420 and replaces the older, slower PCI backplanes with PCI-X backplanes; rp8400 cell boards cannot be carried forward.
The Server Expansion Unit connects to the rp8400 and adds 16 PCI-X slots, two core I/O cards, four hard disk drives and two removable media drives. It needs at least three cell boards in slots 0, 1 and 2, A7109A core I/O cards in the server, and the HP-UX 0306 hardware enablement bundle. In the same rack it mounts directly above the server.
Other HPE servers are in the HPE servers hub and include the HPE Integrity rx8640.
Field-racked Server Expansion Units ship with a shroud assembly kit: new brass shrouds with a finger EMI gasket replace the black shrouds on the rp8400 system backplane, and factory-racked servers already have them.
