ST10000NM0578 is the 10TB self-encrypting (SED) 512E model of the Seagate Exos X14 SAS family, a helium-filled 3.5-inch drive. Fast Format can convert it to 4KN, and the dual-port SAS interface auto-negotiates 3.0, 6.0 and 12.0 Gb.
Thirteen read/write heads work at an areal density of 1058 Gb/in2, and the internal data rate peaks at 2833 Mb/s. For the 12TB and 10TB capacities, sustained transfer runs from 103 to 233 MiB/s. The spindle turns at 7200 RPM with 4.16 ms average latency, and the buffer is 256MB. The drive weighs 690 g (1.521 lb).
Encryption uses 32 independent data bands with authenticated firmware download. A 128-deep task set, support for up to 32 initiators, Power Balance, Power Save, SAS Power Disable, Seagate RAID Rebuild and Idle Read After Write are also built in.
The annualized failure rate is 0.35% with an MTBF of 2,500,000 hours, workload tops out at under 550TB per year, the load-unload rating is 600,000 cycles and nonrecoverable read errors are limited to 1 per 10E15 bits read.
The standard 10TB model is ST10000NM0528 and the FIPS 140-2 model is ST10000NM0608.
