ST2000DM001 is the Seagate Barracuda 2TB hard drive: a 7,200 rpm drive on a SATA 6Gb/s interface with NCQ, backward-compatible with 3Gb/s and 1.5Gb/s links, and a 64MB multisegmented cache. It stores 4,096-byte sectors on 3 disks with 6 heads.
Seagate gives an average read/write data rate of 156 MB/s and a maximum sustained outer-diameter read of 210 MB/s, with average seek times under 8.5 ms for reads and 9.5 ms for writes. Typical power is 8.0 W operating, 5.40 W idle and 0.75 W in standby or sleep, and the drive is rated for 300,000 load/unload cycles, under 1% annualized failure rate and one non-recoverable read error per 10E14 bits.
The drive measures 101.6 mm wide, 146.99 mm deep and 26.11 mm high, weighs 626 g, and is rated for a drive case temperature of up to 60 °C. Seagate lists desktop PCs, home servers, desktop RAID, direct-attached storage and network-attached storage as the best-fit uses.
The same line's 3TB model is ST3000DM001, and the 1TB model is ST1000DM003. Other 2TB 3.5-inch drives for IBM and Lenovo systems, such as 90Y9000, are under IBM and Lenovo hard drives.
