ULT3580-TD7 is the drive identifier of the IBM LTO Ultrium 7 full-height tape drive, machine type model 3580-TD7. It is used in the TS4300 and TS4500 tape libraries. The interface is 8 Gb/s Fibre Channel, and the drive works with Ultrium 7 cartridges holding 6 TB native or 15 TB at 2.5:1 compression.
Native data rate is 300 MB/s on Ultrium 7 media, 160 MB/s on Ultrium 6 and 140 MB/s on Ultrium 5. Sustained throughput at 2.5:1 compression is 750 MB/s on Ultrium 7, 400 MB/s on Ultrium 6 and 280 MB/s on Ultrium 5, and the Fibre Channel burst rate is 800 MB/s. Load-to-ready takes 15 seconds, unload 20 seconds and average rewind 60 seconds.
Speed matching steps the tape speed between 101.46 and 306.0 MB/s on Ultrium 7 media to follow the rate the host delivers, which reduces backhitch. Archive-mode unthread, available on LTO-7 and later drives, tunes tape tension for long-term storage at the cost of a longer unload. The drive reads and writes Ultrium 7 and Ultrium 6 cartridges and reads Ultrium 5.
Ultrium 7 cartridges are purple with the barcode suffix L7 (LX for WORM), write 3,584 tracks 32 at a time and are rated for 20,000 load and unload cycles. Encryption is application-managed T10. A full-height Fibre Channel drive takes 5 V dc at a steady maximum of 4.1 A.
A half-height sibling is the LTO-7 half-high SAS stand-alone drive, and the wider range is in IBM tape drives and libraries.
