7KT9W is a Dell 12 TB 3.5-inch hard drive spinning at 7,200 rpm, built by Seagate as model ST12000NM009G and formatted 512e, without self-encryption. Dell lists it for PowerVault ME5 Series and ME4 Series arrays (firmware ESL9) and for MD1400 and MD1420 expansion enclosures (firmware ESL7). ME5 systems take only SAS drives, so its ME5 listing confirms the SAS interface. Dell's ME484 JBOD enclosure matrix also lists it, at a 12 Gb interface rate.
Dell's firmware packages group the ST12000NM009G with the ST10000NM011G, ST14000NM013G and ST16000NM010G as Seagate 'Evans' drives, and the 16 TB member of that group appears in Dell's ME4 matrix as CNXPV. Choose CNXPV for more capacity in the same drive generation, or 7KT9W where an array is already built on 12 TB drives.
One fit detail is specific to this drive family: Dell's PowerEdge R7515 technical specifications list 7KT9W and CNXPV among the Evans HDDs that need a DIMM blank installed when the server uses the 12 x 3.5-inch drive configuration. If you are adding these drives to an R7515, check that blanks fill the empty memory slots.
To confirm fit, read the Seagate model and Dell part number on the label, check Dell's support matrix for your array or server, and update to the firmware listed there.
