The AFF A300 is a mid-range NetApp all-flash HA pair that NetApp has moved to end of availability; its hardware support list drops it from ONTAP 9.17.1, so systems stay on earlier releases.
NetApp positions it as the replacement target for AFF8020, AFF8040, AFF8060 and AFF8080 controllers. NetApp documents controller upgrade paths from it to the AFF A400 (automated aggregate relocation from ONTAP 9.7P8), the AFF A800 (from 9.7P5), the AFF A700 and A900, the AFF A50 (from 9.16.1), and the AFF A70, A90 or A1K (from 9.15.1). In a two-node switchless cluster, the A400 upgrade needs temporary cluster ports, such as the A400 mezzanine ports or a four-port 10GbE card.
NetApp's maintenance set for this model covers the boot media, chassis, controller, DIMMs, fans, NVDIMM battery, PCIe cards, power supplies and the real-time clock battery. When a PCIe card is replaced on a system that runs 10 GbE cluster and data connections on 40 GbE NICs or onboard ports, NetApp has those ports converted with nicadmin convert from Maintenance mode.
Its FAS counterpart in the same generation is the FAS8200, and both reach end of ONTAP support at 9.17.1.
Before ordering, confirm Model Name in sysconfig -a and note the running ONTAP version, since replacement controllers must run a release this model supports.
