The FAS8200 is NetApp's mid-range hybrid-flash FAS HA pair of the AFF A300 generation. NetApp's hardware support list drops it from ONTAP 9.17.1, so existing systems stay on earlier releases.
Each controller takes a caching module, and NetApp notes that the system has two caching-module slots with one populated by default, so a second module can be added. The maintenance set covers the boot media, caching module, chassis, controller, DIMMs, drives, NVMEM battery (under the CPU air duct), PCIe cards, power supplies and the real-time clock battery. A DIMM is replaced on excessive correctable or uncorrectable ECC errors reported through Health Monitor.
NetApp lists it as the replacement target for FAS8020, FAS8040, FAS8060 and FAS8080 controllers. Its own documented upgrades are to the FAS8300 (automated aggregate relocation from ONTAP 9.7P8), FAS8700, FAS9000 or FAS9500, and to FAS70, FAS90 (ONTAP 9.15.1P3) or FAS50 (9.16.1P2). In a two-node switchless cluster the FAS8300 upgrade needs temporary cluster ports during the move.
For racking, configured NetApp system cabinets ship with a fixed rail kit that supports the rear hold-down brackets of this model.
Before ordering a controller, confirm Model Name in sysconfig -a and the running ONTAP release, and match caching-module capacity when replacing one.
