ULT3580-TD5 is the drive identifier of the IBM LTO Ultrium 5 full-height tape drive, the larger of the two LTO drive sizes. The interface is 8 Gb/s Fibre Channel. Fifth-generation Ultrium cartridges store 1.5 TB native and 3 TB at 2:1 compression.
Native data rate is 140 MB/s with Ultrium 5 cartridges, falling to 120 MB/s with Ultrium 4 and 80 MB/s with Ultrium 3. At 2:1 compression the sustained rate is 280 MB/s, 240 MB/s and 160 MB/s for those three generations, and the Fibre Channel burst rate is 800 MB/s. After a cartridge is loaded the drive is ready in 12 seconds, and unloading takes 17 seconds.
The drive reads and writes Ultrium 5 and Ultrium 4 cartridges and reads Ultrium 3. Ultrium 5 cartridges carry 1,280 tracks written 16 at a time in a linear serpentine format, use the L5 barcode suffix (LV for WORM) and are rated for 20,000 load and unload cycles. Encryption is application-managed T10 and applies to Ultrium 4 and later cartridges only.
The front of a full-height unit has one LED, the Unload button, the single-character display and its dot. Supply is 5 V dc with a steady maximum of 4.1 A and a 4.5 A peak lasting under a millisecond. The recommended environment is 16 to 25 C at 20 to 80 percent humidity, with 16 to 32 C allowed at 20 to 50 percent.
