9009-22G is the IBM Power System S922, a one- or two-socket POWER9 server in a 2U rack-mount chassis, updated with PCIe Gen 4 I/O switches and more NVMe adapter support. IBM made it generally available on 24 July 2020 and withdrew it from marketing on 20 October 2023, with the 9009-42G as the recommended replacement.
It supports up to 22 activated cores: a 4-core module at 2.8 to 3.8 GHz, or one or two modules of 8, 10 or 11 cores at 2.8 to 3.9 GHz, plus a special one-core IBM i configuration. Memory is up to 32 DDR4 RDIMM slots, 16 with one socket populated, using 16, 32, 64 and 128 GB modules at 2133, 2400 and 2666 Mbps, for up to 2 TB with one processor and 4 TB with two.
Storage backplanes are eight SFF-3 bays (EJ1F, splittable to 4+4 with EJ1H), eight SFF-3 bays with up to 7.2 GB write cache (EJ1G), and two or four NVMe U.2 slots (EJ1V and EJ1W). With two processors the slots are five x16 Gen 4 low-profile slots, two x8 slots with x16 connectors and four x8 slots, one of which holds the required base LAN adapter. The server has two hot-plug redundant power supplies, two front USB 3.0 ports and two HMC 1 GbE ports, and the chassis is 482 mm wide, 766.5 mm deep and 86.7 mm high.
