9105-42A is the IBM Power S1024, a 4U rack-mount Power10 server with one or two dual-chip module processors. Processor options are a 12-core at 3.40 - 4.0 GHz, a 16-core at 3.10 - 4.0 GHz or a 24-core at 2.75 - 3.90 GHz. When both sockets are filled they must carry the same processor model, and a single system tops out at 48 Power10 cores and 384 simultaneous threads.
Core activations can be static for all installed cores, Capacity Upgrade on Demand for at least half of the installed cores, or base activations for a Power Private Cloud with Shared Utility Capacity pool. At least 50% of the installed cores must be active in the Capacity Upgrade on Demand case.
The server has 32 DDIMM slots, 16 of them usable with one socket populated, and takes up to 8 TB of DDR4 or DDR5 memory in feature pairs of 16 GB to 256 GB DDIMMs; the two types cannot share a server. Peak memory bandwidth is up to 409 GBps per socket with DDR4 and 819 GBps with DDR5. Transparent memory encryption is built in and Active Memory Mirroring for the hypervisor is an option.
With one socket populated there are one x16 Gen4 or x8 Gen5 slot, two x8 Gen5 slots with x16 connectors, one more x8 Gen5 and one x8 Gen4; filling the second socket adds more Gen4 and Gen5 slots. Up to two storage backplanes each carry eight NVMe U.2 slots, for drives of 800 GB, 1.6 TB, 3.2 TB and 6.4 TB. The rack chassis is 482 mm wide, 712 mm deep and 173 mm high, and weighs 42.6 kg.
