IBM feature #5723 is the 2-Port Asynchronous EIA-232 PCI Adapter for IBM Power Systems servers of machine types 82xx, 91xx and 94xx. It provides connection for two asynchronous EIA-232 devices through two external DB09 connectors. The ports are programmable to support asynchronous protocols over an EIA-232 interface at line speeds up to 128 Kbps.
The controller is an Exar Dual Async Controller, XR17D152, with a 16C850 UART equivalent. The adapter is EIA-232 compatible and supports Xon/Xoff offload, RTS/CTS or DTR/DSR offload, hardware or software flow control and custom baud rates. It is a PCI Local Bus Specification Revision 2.2 compliant card with a 32-bit data and address bus at 33 MHz, a single-slot card that is less than half-size, with universal signaling at 5V or 3.3V, and it meets FCC Class B.
Power consumption is 1.3 watts nominal and 2.465 watts maximum. Operating system requirements are AIX 5L Version 5.2 with the 5200-04 Technology Level and later, AIX 5L Version 5.3 and later, Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 4 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 SP1.
