The EVA8100 is the largest model in the EVA4100, EVA6100 and EVA8100 group of HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Arrays. HP's compatibility reference identifies its controller as the HSV210-A, where the EVA4100 and EVA6100 use the HSV200-A. HP's M5314 installation guide states that the M5314C drive enclosure is used with the EVA8100 and EVA6100, while the EVA8000 uses the M5314A or M5314B, so shelves are not interchangeable across the two generations.

Software: XCS 6.110 is the minimum controller software for the EVA4100, EVA6100 and EVA8100, and HP says it can also be installed on the EVA4000, EVA6000 and EVA8000. These arrays should be managed through Command View EVA installed on a physical management server.

Upgrade path: the reference shows a data-in-place upgrade into the EVA8100 (HSV210-A) from the EVA3000, EVA5000, EVA4000/6000 (HSV200), EVA4100/6100 (HSV200-A) and EVA8000 (HSV210) controllers. The table shows no onward in-place path from the EVA8100 to a later EVA controller. The two arrays must run the same controller software version when doing the upgrade.

What to check before ordering: read the controller label (HSV210-A or HSV210), as that tells you whether the array is an EVA8100 or an EVA8000 and so which shelf type applies. Shelves for this array are the AD542C M5314C enclosure; the previous generation is the EVA8000 and the lower model is the EVA6100. The storage systems hub lists related parts.
