AD542C HP M5314C FC EVA Drive Enclosure

AD542C is the HP StorageWorks M5314C Fibre Channel drive enclosure, the 14-bay shelf used to add capacity to an Enterprise Virtual Array. HP's M5314 installation guide states which generation takes which model: the M5314A or M5314B is used with the EVA4000, EVA6000 and EVA8000, and the M5314C is used with the EVA4100, EVA6100 and EVA8100. If your array is one of the older generation, this is the wrong shelf; the earlier AD542A option is the one HP's EVA4000 QuickSpecs list.

PartSurfer shows what sits inside the shelf, which helps when only a module has failed. Listed spares include the blower (123482-005), the 499W hot-swap power supply (212398-005, fan assembly not included), the Fibre Channel I/O modules Type A (364549-009) and Type B (364548-009), the environmental monitoring unit (375393-005) that reports on power supplies and fans, the midplane board (859950-001), the hard drive bezel (366285-001) and the 2U rail kit (383663-001). The 4Gb copper FC cable 432374-001 (2.0 m) is also listed.

Weight matters for installation. HP's guide warns that a fully loaded enclosure weighs more than 29.5 kg (65 lb) and needs two people; with drives, power supplies, blowers, EMU and I/O modules removed it is about 11.0 kg (24 lb). Fit a new shelf only after Command View EVA shows every enclosure and disk with good status.
