IBM SAN Volume Controller Storage Engine SV1, 2147-SV1 (2145-SV1)

2147-SV1 is the IBM SAN Volume Controller Model SV1, a 2U node that virtualizes block storage under IBM Spectrum Virtualize. The 2147-SV1 is physically identical to the 2145-SV1; the 2147 machine type adds three-year Enterprise Class Support, where the 2145-SV1 comes with one year. IBM applies its 2145-SV1 hardware documentation to both numbers, and both were announced on 23 August 2016.

Each node carries two Intel Xeon E5 v4 processors with eight cores at 3.2 GHz and 64 GB of base cache, expandable with a 256 GB cache upgrade. Three 10Gb Ethernet ports handle iSCSI and system management, and one 1Gb Ethernet technician port is fitted. There are four USB ports, two SAS chains, two integrated battery units and two power supply and cooling units.

The node has slots for up to four host interface adapters. Options are a four-port 16Gb Fibre Channel card, a four-port 10Gb Ethernet card for iSCSI and FCoE, a compression accelerator card, and a four-port 12Gb SAS card for expansion enclosures. Only one 10Gb Ethernet adapter is supported per node.

SAS expansion comes in the 12F (2U, up to 12 3.5-inch drives), 24F (2U, up to 24 2.5-inch drives) and 92F (5U, up to 92 drives) enclosures, each also available as a 2147 model. Up to four dense drawers attach per SAS chain. A node is 87 mm high, 447 mm wide and 746 mm deep, weighs 25 kg to 30 kg depending on configuration, and dissipates between 123 W and 1020 W of AC power.
