480940-001 is the HPE spare number for the StorageWorks MSA2 500GB 7.2K rpm 3.5-inch dual-port SATA hard drive, sold as option AJ738A. PartSurfer also lists 481274-001 as a spare under the same option.
HPE's MSA2000 option parts list places AJ738A under "MSA2 LFF SATA drives for MSA2000 3.5 in drive chassis and enclosure", alongside 750 GB and 1 TB versions. An "#0D1" variant of the option appears in the factory configure-to-order list.
HPE issued customer advisory c01671837 for this drive. It names Seagate model ST3500320NS with option kit AJ738A and spares kit 480940-001, and states that drives on firmware SN05 or earlier could fail on power-up in rare cases. HPE corrected this in firmware SN06.
The advisory adds that drive firmware upgrades on the MSA2000 are an offline process: all host and array I/O must be stopped first.
The 480941-001 is the 750 GB drive from the same advisory, and 480937-001 is another MSA2 SATA drive we list. Check the drive firmware level in the SMU disk drive list before installing it in an MSA2000.
