4M17A37281 is the ThinkSystem SE350 M.2 SATA/NVMe 4-bay Data Drive Enablement Kit, Lenovo feature code B6FF, for the ThinkSystem SE350 edge server. It holds four M.2 data drives, either four SATA or four NVMe, and the two types cannot be mixed in one adapter. The 42 mm, 60 mm, 80 mm and 110 mm drive lengths (2242, 2260, 2280 and 22110) are all supported.
Each drive connects over either a 6 Gbps SATA link or a PCIe 3.0 x1 link, depending on the drive installed, and the kit supports SED drive encryption. With SATA drives, RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 are provided as software RAID by the controller in the processor. The SE350 supports up to two of these kits. Lenovo supports the ThinkSystem M.2 5300 480GB (4XB7A17073, feature B919) and 960GB (4XB7A17074, feature B8JJ) SATA SSDs in M.2 2280 on this kit.
In the SE350 riser, the left wing slot reaches the onboard SATA controller through SATA cable 4Z57A37312, while the right wing slot does not support SATA drives on this 4-bay kit. Drives on opposite sides of the adapter must be the same length. The SATA-only sibling is the ThinkSystem SE350 M.2 SATA 4-Bay Data RAID Mirroring Enablement Kit 4M17A37606 (B6FG), which uses two Marvell 88SE9230 controllers for RAID 0 or RAID 1 on each pair of drives and does not support NVMe.
