C-NIM-4X is the Cisco 4-port 1G/10G LAN/WAN network interface module with IEEE 802.1AE MACsec. It has four switched SFP/SFP+ ports running at 100M, 1G or 10G, and local Layer 2 switching works on all four. The two highest-numbered ports can be set to native Layer 3 operation, which provides full feature parity with the router embedded WAN ports.
The ports take SGMII/1000BASE-X SFPs and 10GBASE-R SFP+ optics. A 100 Mbps optic link works with the GLC-GE-100FX SFP. All four ports connect to the backplane through a single 10-Gbps-capable internal link, so a fully loaded module is oversubscribed 4 to 1.
The module fits only a NIM slot, not the SM-NIM carrier adapter or the C-SM-NIM-ADPT. It runs on Catalyst 8300 Series edge platforms and is not supported on the Catalyst 8200 Series. IOS XE Dublin 17.11.1a or later is required to install it.
Unlike the C-NIM-4X, the C-NIM-8T, with eight 10M/100M/1G RJ-45 ports, also installs on Catalyst 8200 Series platforms.
