The IBM 2072-24G is the small form factor expansion enclosure for the IBM FlashSystem 5000 family under machine type 2072. It is a 2U enclosure with two expansion canisters and 24 bays for 2.5-inch SAS drives, and it attaches over SAS to FlashSystem 5000 control enclosures such as the 2072-2H4 and 2072-3H4. Drives are ordered as 2072 features, for example AL6A (1.8 TB 10K), AL6B (2.4 TB 10K) and the flash features AL80 to AL83 (1.92 TB to 15.36 TB). IBM announced the 2072-24G on February 11, 2020 and withdrew it from marketing on December 31, 2025; the AL6A drive feature on this model ended earlier, on June 30, 2025. The FlashSystem 5200 uses its own expansion, the 4662-24G, and the FlashSystem 5045 uses the 4680-24H, so match the expansion machine type to the controller. To confirm a unit, read the machine type-model on the enclosure label and check the controller's supported expansion list before adding it to a system.
