IBM #8129 0/256 GB DDR2 Memory (32X8 GB) DIMMS 400 MHz POWER6 Memory for 9117

IBM feature #8129 is a 0/256 GB DDR2 memory feature of 32 DIMMs, each with 8 GB, for a total feature size of 256 GB of DDR2, 400 MHz POWER6 system memory on machine type 9117 (model 9117-MMA). It is a Capacity on Demand memory feature, and none of the memory in this feature is active. Use of the feature requires memory activation feature #5681 on the same initial system order to provide 100% activation, and memory activation feature #5680 cannot be used to activate the memory on this feature. The DIMMs purchased with this feature must all be used on a single system.

The feature provides 256 GB of memory on 32 DIMMs and requires 32 empty DIMM slots. DIMMs must be placed on processor cards in sets of four, and memory must be 100% active on this feature. It requires System Firmware level EM320_030 or later. Memory features #5696 and #8129 (8x #5696) cannot be mixed with any other memory feature on a single processor card and cannot be used on processor card feature #5620. A processor card with #8129 can be mixed in the same CEC enclosure with a processor card that holds other POWER6 memory features.

On the 9117-MMA the minimum required is 0 and the maximum allowed is 3, which is also the initial order maximum. The operating system levels required are AIX 5.2 TL10 or later, AIX 5.3 TL6 or later and IBM i 5.4 with V5R4M5 machine code or later. The feature is orderable at initial order only, with CSU no and return parts MES no. All other POWER6 memory features must be purchased with enough permanent activations to be at least 50% active, whereas #8129 is bought with #5681 for 100% activation. If memory features in a single system have different frequencies, all memory in the system functions at the lowest frequency present.
